Historically, El Castillo de las Guardas has been divided into different nuclei, perhaps because of agricultural and livestock farming, or perhaps because of the prehistoric settlements that have survived to the present day.
Nowadays, El Castillo de las Guardas is dismembered, but not disunited. The main nucleus being El Castillo de las Guardas, its 10 hamlets: La Alcornocosa, Archidona, Arroyo de la Plata, La Aulaga, Las Cañadillas, El Cañuelo, Las Cortecillas, El Peralejo, Peroamigo and Valdeflores; and several scattered urban centres.
They all have their own entity and personality, with unique, silent landscapes, where the slightest sound detail overflows, where the humid air combines with the smells of nature.
